Expanding the View of Emergence in Individuals, Populations, and Species of Stipoid Grasses: A Comparison Including Achnatherum occidentale

چکیده
In our ongoing studies of emergent properties at different hierarchical levels in the grass tribe Stipeae, an additional species, Achnatherum occidentale, is included to broaden the comparison. The degree of emergence seen parallels that of previous studies, an increasing trend from populations to individuals and species to related groups of species. The degree of emergence in species pairs that hybridize, A. hendersonii and A. lemmonii, or A. occidentale and A. lemmonii, is lower than in non-hybridizing species pairs of Achnatherum, including the closely related pair of A. wallowaensis and A. hendersonii. The degree of emergence assesses the relationship among variables. This relationship, in turn, is the end product of integrated developmental pathways; a lower degree of emergence reveals similar responses among developmental pathways. Similar developmental responses may facilitate hybridiz a-

Genetic Similarities Among Iranian Populations of Festuca, Lolium, Bromus and Agropyron Using Amplified Fragments Length Polymorphism (AFLP) Markers
The study of genetic variation and phylogenetic relationships is essential for the efficient selection of superior plant material and conducting introgression breeding programs. In Iran, despite the wide geographical distribution of grasses no report is available on the genetic diversity and relationships of cool season grass populations. In this study amplified fragment length polymorphism (AF...

متن کاملPhylogeny of gazelles in some islands of Iran based on mtDNA sequences: Species identification and implications for conservation
Different species of gazelles are among the most endangered mammals on the Asian steppes and occur in the central, southern and northwestern regions of Iran. The previous conservation efforts in this region have been incomplete due to confusion about the phylogenetic relationship among various populations. So that, different conservation programs such as ex-situ breeding and transfer of captive...
متن کاملMechanisms of drought stress tolerance in cool season grasses
Drought stress is one of the most limiting abiotic stresses affecting growth, production and survival of plants in many areas of the world, and is expected to intensify considering the trend of climate change. Grass species are important for the sustainability of agricultural systems, forage resources for animal farming and landscapes. Grass species adapt to water deficit by different morpholog...
